Teaching & learning
As you start your studies with us it is completely normal to feel nervous or apprehensive about the commitment you are making. Many of our online students are returning to study after having some time out of education and returning to study can feel daunting. Additionally, you may be feeling worried about studying online for the first time and are not sure how this will work.
Please be assured that you are not alone at any part of your studies. You have plenty of people who are here to support your including your Student Success Co-ordinator, the academic team, your Programme Leadership team as well as a range of others including from the library, academic skills and disability support.
One of the best sources of support you will find will during your studies will be from the other people you are studying with. You will meet a lot of other students during your course and will be asked to work together to undertake discussions and some tasks.
As an online programme we have the benefit of having a really diverse community from around the world and so do take the opportunity to make connections with your peers and learn about others who are also on this journey with you.
To help you prepare for studying online you will find some tips below that may help you prepare and be ready to get started on your first module.
The Library
During your course you have full access to our online library, this includes:
-
- Access to a large collection of ebooks and eJournals: students are required to access textbooks for their online classes, though most of the time textbooks are available digitally as ebooks. The reading list on each module offers you the specific readings that you will need to complete the course and will take you directly to those resources in the library reading lists.
-
- Your Academic Subject Librarian is available to offer support and assistance when searching the library resources. In addition to this, they can offer support with referencing.
-
- Support/advice via email, telephone, and MS Teams.
The Digital Library
The Digital Library offers information on accessing your reading list, other texts and further resources. There is also further study support, including guides on different styles of academic writing, webinars and tutorials.
Reading Lists
Module reading lists are available on the left hand menu of each module. Links are also in your Programme Handbook.
Reading lists can also be accessed on the University of Lincoln Library website by typing the module code into the search bar of the reading list page. (E.G. HRM9700M, MKT9001M, etc)
You can search by module name, but be aware that online and on-campus modules may use different texts, so it is important to confirm the module code matches, as well as the academic year.
Please do be aware that reading lists may be updated before a module starts so should be treated as provisional until published within the module.
Additional Learning Support
If you have any additional learning support or disabilities the University wants to support, you to be successful!
As you may have already seen you are able to declare an additional learning support need at the point of application however if you have not done so, please don’t think it is too late. You can self-refer to the additional learning support team at any point during your programme.
Seeking additional support will in no way affect your place on the programme and will hopefully lead to strategies which can help to support your learning.
At the University we seek to make our courses as accessible as possible by design. Within online courses due to the Canvas system we use we are additionally able to ensure our materials and resources are as accessible as possible.
Please take a look at the link below which provides some of the accessibility standards used within Canvas.
