Academic consequences of poor attendance
Falling behind
Missing lectures, seminars and tutorials can lead to gaps in understanding, making it harder to keep up with work and assessments.
Lower grades
Poor attendance is linked to lower academic performance and reduced chances of achieving higher classifications.
Risk of withdrawal
Continued non-attendance may trigger formal warnings, aademic reviews and, in some cases, withdrawal from the course.
Legal consequences
For international students, attendance holds even greater importance. Not only is it vital for academic progress, but it is also a legal requirement under UK visa regulations. The university monitors attendance closely to ensure students meet these rules. Any absence must be reported through the appropriate channels.
Beyond meeting visa conditions, regular attendance helps international students settle into university life, improving their language skills, cultural understanding, and overall wellbeing.
