Submitting a Panopto Video Assignment in Blackboard Original
This help sheet introduces you to process of uploading a video assignment to your Blackboard Original module. The steps below will allow you to submit any video as part of a module assessment using a Panopto Video Submission Point.
Please note: that this guide is specifically for modules on the Blackboard Learn Original theme. If you are unsure whether your module is Blackboard Original or Blackboard Ultra, all Blackboard Original modules will have a left-hand menu made up of a range of links such as ‘Module Content’ and ‘Assessments’.
Step 1: Accessing your ‘My Folder’
Step one involves either recording or uploading your video to your personal ‘My Folder’ in Panopto, if you do not have a My Folder already then the steps below will create one for you.
- Login to Blackboard and access the ‘My BB Sites’ tab from the left-hand navigation menu.
- Navigate to the module area for which you have to submit the Panopto video assignment.
- Then go to the ‘Assessments’ page of your module. Locate the Panopto Video Submission Point and you will find a list of six instructions to follow.
Step 2: Recording or Uploading to your ‘My Folder’
- Click on the Panopto Video library hyperlink in the first instruction to be taken to your ‘My Folder’. You can also do this by opening the assignment and selecting Panopto video library from within the assignment instructions.
- This will open a new tab within your web browser directing you to your ‘My Folder’. If you do not currently have one then this step will create one for you.
- You can now either upload your assignment or record a video directly in this folder by clicking the ‘create ‘Create’ button on the top of the page.
- If you need to record a video please see the following guide on using the Panopto Web Capture Tool: Panopto for Students: Using the Web Capture Tool for Assessments – Learning at Lincoln
- If you have already created a video in another application such as Microsoft PowerPoint or a video editor like iMovie, then you can simply choose Create > Upload and locate the video file stored on your computer.
Please note: you have not yet made a formal submission. Uploading your work to the Panopto ‘My Folder’ is a mandatory step, you must not directly upload video to a Blackboard submission. You will link to it from Panopto.
Step 3: Submitting to Blackboard
- Once your video is ready and uploaded to your Panopto ‘My folder’ click the title of the submission point, you will now enter the submission area as shown in the screenshot below.
- Then click the Write Submission button below Submission. The text editor will expand once you click the this button.
- In the content editor toolbar, you can then select the three dots on the right hand top corner to expand the entire toolbar. Then look for the icon, which looks like a circle with a plus symbol inside of it, as highlighted in the screenshot below. This will then open the Add Content window.
- In the Add Content window, you can then scroll down to section of Additional Tools and select Panopto Student Video Submission as shown in the screenshot below. Please note there may be additional Panopto options listed for students on Ultra courses. You should only use the Panopto Student Video Submission option as shown in the screenshot below without the logo.
- Your Panopto ‘My folder’ will open and you will see the video that you uploaded or recorded. Select the circle checkbox button next to the video that you want to submit for the assignment, then click on the Submit Video.
- A link to the video will appear in the text editor once you have submitted the video.
- In addition, you can include more text above or below the link or add additional attachments to the assignment if required. When you are ready to submit the assignment, click Submit. Please note: the video must be hyperlinked in the text box of the submission, if your video does not show then you will need to repeat the process and or try a different browser.
- Upon submitting, you will be taken to a confirmation page that states your submission was successful. A purple banner will appear at the top of the page, as shown in the screenshot below. This contains a digital receipt with a reference number that you can copy and keep for your records. To confirm the submission, you will also receive an email from Blackboard.
What to do if you require further support?
If you are unable to submit your Panopto video assignment you should raise an IT Support Ticket with Digital Technologies before the due date of your assignment. To do this, send an email providing details of which module and assignment you are working on, links to your Panopto video, and any screenshots of the issue that you are experiencing, to ict@lincoln.ac.uk. It is also a good idea to include your module tutor in the email so that they are aware of your difficulties.
