Live Captions and Transcripts

If you are attending a lecture or seminar that is hosted in a Microsoft Teams meeting, you can enable live captions (sometimes referred to as closed-captions), to assist you with your understanding and comprehension of what is being discussed in the session.

Please note: live captions are never 100% accurate, and whilst they can be a beneficial tool for supporting your learning, you should always query to your tutor any discipline specific terminology or concepts that are not communicated clearly by any captioning method.

Turn Captions On and Off

  1. To use live captions in a meeting, go to your meeting controls at the top of the screen and select More More options button > Language and speech > Turn on live captions.
  2. To stop using live captions, go to the meeting controls and select More  More options button  > Language and speech >Turn off live captions.

Customise Captions

If you’re using the desktop app on Windows or Mac, you can customise the font size and colour, increase the number of lines displayed, and change the positioning of the captions in the meeting window.

  1. To the right of the captions, select Settings .
  2. Select Caption settings.
  3. You can then choose from language and style settings.
