Assessment Troubleshooting Guide

If you accidently upload the wrong assignment or submit an exam before you have completed it
If submitting on Turnitin, you should be able to replace the originally submitted file before the deadline. If this happens during a MCQ exam, you should try to restart the test. However, this will only be allowed if the exam is still open. Unfortunately, you will not be able to access your previous responses so please notify your tutor as soon as possible, once you have
completed and re-submitted. If you are not able to progress, please contact your tutor for advice.

If your internet connection drops out during a test or while submiting
Internet connections on a computer can cut out from time to time. Usually, the connection will re-establish itself within 30 seconds. If after 60 seconds it has not re-established, first, disconnect your computer from the WiFi network and then try to re-join the WiFi. If the internet connection does not return, try re-booting the WiFi router. Give it a few minutes to complete the reboot and try again to join your computer to the WiFi network. You could also try to connect to another internet source such as the 4G on your phone
(called ‘Personal Hotspot’ on iOS and ‘Hotspot’ on Android).

If your browser crashes during a Blackboard test
Try not to panic, reassuringly this is rare but if it does occur you should be able to re-join where you left off. If you are still unable to get to the submission screen or to rejoin the test, please do let your module tutor know of any problems as soon as you can.

If you accidently close your browser tab during a Blackboard Test
Don’t worry, you should be able to re-open your browser and rejoin from where you were. If the assignment or test has been submitted and you cannot carry on from where you left off, let your module tutor know as soon as you can.

If your computer suddenly crashes
This issue should rarely happen. If your computer is prone to suddenly crashing, you may want to use a different computer for the summative assessments. If the computer does crash, please make sure the power cable is plugged in and connected to the power supply before restarting the computer.
If you are sitting a MCQ test, please try to rejoin your test as you should be able to carry on where you left off or to start a second attempt if required.
If you are submitting via Blackboard or Turnitin, the submission point should still allow submission attempts up to the deadline.

If the question layout is difficult to read or does not make sense
How the text is displayed can often be influenced by your browser. For the best experience, we recommend using Google Chrome. If problems persist, your browser may be ‘saving’ previous versions of the page, which can easily be resolved by clearing your browser cache (https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/32050).
If you feel the question doesn’t make sense, please contact your module tutor as soon as possible and include some screenshots to support your query.
For advice on how to achieve the above and some further guidance, please see the other Help and Support pages here on Learning at Lincoln, where a range of helpsheets can be found to support you with your assessments.
